One of the first things I'll be doing on my site is customizing the main timeline "What's New" input component. I plan to create some custom entry types, and some of these types will have different layouts and options.

I'm looking for a good starting point. Does anybody know of any good plugins or themes that give the What's New box a more modern UX? The default isn't terrible, but I do think I've seen some that were an improvement.

From what i've seen the themes usually leave the whats new box alone, however its the Advanced Activity Feed that makes the changes
