Change Display Name

Our community allows members to select a user name upon signup. We are a recovery based community so we keep first and last names private.

This user name then becomes their "display name" which is the one that is on their profile and the one they use as their identity within the community.

It would be nice if they could change that name or an admin could change that name after sign up. As the system works now, we are unable to change the display name. We tested this on the demo site too.

If this is something that we can already do, please let us know how. Otherwise it would be nice if at least the Admins could edit the Display name field.

    Thanks!
    Nancy

Yes, they can change it if you set it in the member level settings. You can change it here to see. Noting that the display name here is not the username.

I should say to also ensure that usernames are enabled but you mentioned that they are. So, in your member page in admin, you should see usernames and the displayname columns. The username should not be a number if the setting is enabled. Just verifying that the setting is indeed enabled lol.

https://community.socialengine.com/forums/topic/850/change-display-name/view/page/2 actually, you hadn't answered that question regarding whether you have a 3rd party product. In that thread, the earlier posts mention that an advanced member product doesn't allow the editing of that. Can you check to see if you are using one and whether it allows editing of the username?

Hmmmmm, we have a third party plugin from Social Engine Solutions that assigns a letter to a members profile.  Here are the settings. I am going to try and "unplug" the plugin and see if that makes a difference:

I turned off the plugin and cleared everything out and it still doesn't work. I will contact Social Networking Solutions and see if they have any suggestions.

    Thanks!
