As always thank you to those of you who have been helping me for the past year or so. Our new online community is up and running beautifully and we are very happy.

    Here's my question:

When the Activity Feed is turned on we can configure it so that the following works:

    • Comments in the activity feed for Groups, Journals and Events are then replicated on the Group, Journal and Event pages.
    • Comments in the activity feed for FORUMS are not replicated on the Forum pages.
    • Comments in Private Groups are showing up on our Activity feed (I'm sure I'm missing a setting somewhere?)

I tried to duplicate the forum/activity feed situation on the demo site but it isn't configured the same as ours.

Since we had some customization work done on our forum, I went to Social Networking Solutions first to see if they changed something that caused the comments not to show up on the forum pages. This was their response:

We would like to inform you that forum plugin does not have comment widget, You can also check the same on SE demo.

That's the reason comments are not showing in forums, If member want to see the comment on their forums then they can go on member profile page & then check in the feed

Any help or tips greatly appreciated, as always!

No, forums cannot receive comments on activity feed items. People need to visit the forums to make replies to posts there. It is set up differently due to being able to quote and reply to the thread and is not set up to allow comments on a single post as that would have threaded forum posts and be a very confusing system from a traditional forum setup.

That makes sense. So that is why on the demo site you have the forums turned off from the activity feed I am guessing.

We are hoping our members will move towards using GROUPS instead of all the FORUMS they are in. Since GROUPS show up in the activity feed and forums do not, this might actually push them in that direction. In order to make the transition from our archaic forums to Social Engine, we did keep the Forums front and center, but we will be hitting 6 months now so a push towards groups is in the works.

Thanks as always for your quick reply Donna, you are the best!

Yes, I believe that is the default setting. I have it enabled on my own site. But, it does confuse people if they can comment on a thread in the activity feed so to me, disabling the comment on that particular feed item would be better.

Thank you! You're pretty awesome yourself Nancy
