This feature request is for the 'Do not sell my personal information box' to be turned in to w widget so that it can be added or removed to the global site footer from the layout manager.

At the moment, it is hard coded in to the application/modules/Core/widgets/menu-footer.tpl at lines 48-66, and can only be removed with a source edit (I comment out the whole section with <!-- -->

Yeah this is a requirement for any users from California. If you get any members from there or any traffic, you'll be in a huge mess without it. But we should make it a setting to enable/disable and let the clients deal with the legal issues from not having it.

It's not a requirement for it to be shown on 'every page', only the homepage.

    Also, it's only required if

[your] businesses [has] over $25 million in revenue, those handling information from 50,000 consumers, or deriving 50%+ annual revenue from selling consumer personal information.

so it's probably not necessary for the majority of Social Engine users. Seeing this box would make my users worry that I am about to start selling their personal information.

I would make a request for it to be only shown to California residents, but that would involve some IP2Location geolocation magic.

Yeah if we did IP it could cause other issues as users tend to use proxy stuff. I've added this to the list to add a setting to disable it. We need to improve things for various regional/international/ stuff for privacy once we get our next big release out. There is so much that is required these days, it makes it rough to be a website owner.

But the makers could have imagined that this is not a good thing and bothers.
My people also think I am a 2nd Facebook :-)
We have a strict data protection law in Germany, so it is superfluous and confusing.
If something has changed in the version, then I could do without this update and wait until a better solution is found.

I am looking to remove this toggle thing too. There is absolutely no reason for it on my site and bothers people.

I can't find a friend button on this site either, but it must have existed at some point as there are many people with friends :-)

If you were asking about my solution, it literally what I wrote in the last line of my original post.

The friend button is on the profile near the user image. I will get a screenshot of it. Just a sec.

Actually, it is hard to see due to the tiny arrow it has. We need to improve that too. If one of you can put a bug report for me, that would be helpful. I'll go in the admin panel and see if I can arrange things differently here.

Ok I changed the layout. You can see the add friend link on the left on the profile.

I just did the same on my site (added the User > Profile Options block to the Member Profile page in the Layout Editor).

I looked at your suggestion of filing a bug report, but I don't think that the 'bug' above was anything more than an adjustment needed to this site - most sites will have the 'Browse Members' page as a link in the header menu, and the 'Add Friend' button is easily found there.
