Custom URL

Has there been any consideration for a checkbox option in the Admin Panel for core and third-party plugins on the use of Custom URL’s?

If a member is creating a blog, classified, event, etc. entry and are prompted for the custom URL, it is a guessing game on “available URL’s.” While a member enters a URL and checks the availability, there is a higher propensity for them to abandon their entry or post if they become frustrated with not being able to either, figure out what to name or call the URL entry, or by not knowing what to enter altogether in the field.

Some members may not be able to use a desired URL, even if it cannot be indexed, but there are no others with that same URL available, due to it being used previously and it has since expired, or was deleted. It is a guessing game for the member.

Without using creative linguistics in the Language Manager on a description of what the member should enter, not everyone using social media is apt to know what to put in that field, and then guess what is available or not.

If a checkbox in the Admin Panel were available, it would give the administrators the option of, “Use Custom URL.” in the Global Settings of each core and third-party plugin. If it were checked, the member could guess to their hearts desire, if not, the plugin would assign a non-reusable, sequential number and the field wouldn’t even be an option for the member.

Hi Christie! Thanks for posting. Here is a link to our posting guidelines, https://community.socialengine.com/forums/topic/3/submitting-feature-requests which are stickied at the top of this forum section. Please note that we cannot accept requests that do not follow the guidelines as it makes it harder for us to work with. We can only accept requests for the core product. Third parties would need to code their plugins to interact properly with core features.

I will say that in our roadmap we do have a feature for blog update to allow for custom URL but that is for next year sometime.

My apologies, I thought it was a core feature. Can you please delete this thread?

I can move it to the third party feature request if you like. Is that part of a third party product you have?

If you could move it, that would be fantastic. Yes, after double checking, it is a third-party plugin.

No problem! I moved it. Plus, it's a good feature request and we do have some plans for this in the future that I had in our maps for improvement.

When it does become available, could you make it an option in the plugins admin panel? It is not that user friendly for those guessing what to use from what has already been used.

Any options in the plugins would be for our product just so you know. Developers have to implement things into their products. We will make member level settings for things though for our plugins at that time.
