Anyone have any idea on how to disable this or hard coded to a different user. The admin is is auto friended with new sign ups. How to disable or change it to another user?
This is not default function and I would never encourage anyone to use such a function. This can, and most likely will, have your site crashing once you have a lot of members. That's what happened at another script I worked for before. They had such a setting and once a site got big enough, if that admin logged in the site crashed. It's just not a good idea.
I agree Donna and this just started happening. I don't like the idea one bit. It does require the member to approve the request. But for the life of me I don't want this on the site. I'll put a ticket in with SNS as this just started. I didn't purchase an add-on plugin for admin. I don't know php to even attempt. Thank you for the response Donna and Rita.
You're welcome Tristan. It sounds like you've done a good amount of research before trying to make a site. That's always a good sign as you prepare yourself for this endeavor.
Thank you Donna! A lot of work has went into this venture. Just trying to work out the kinks. The admin auto member is bothering to me. I placed a ticket in and hope to get some answers tonight. One thing I do like about SNS is that they never dodge you and always respond to tickets. That's very hard to find now days.
I suggest contacting SNS for this issue. I'm sure they will fix it.You can see Shubhra on our community. I'll try to get her in this thread.
Hi Donna,
SNS went into the site last night, and by morning, here was their response.
"We would like to inform you that we have signup with the test user and from this user no friend request sends to other users automatically and also from admin no friend request send to this user as well."
However, the issue of admin sending automatic friend requests was not corrected as it is still sending these out when a member signs up. I told SNS I'd just figure it out myself and closed the ticket.
Can you tell me what file controls the invite file and the path for SE? If so, that would be great. I’ll take a look around and see if I can correct this issue myself. It has never done this in the past but has started a little over a week. I asked SNS twice where the path file is and location to no avail. It must be top secret as they have never responded to my requests either time.
I'm not sure which one it is and the issue could be from their plugin rather than the invite file. Perhaps send this to Shubhra's attention. She's a moderator here and manager of SNS. Let me get you her profile link. https://community.socialengine.com/profile/shubhra . In case she doesn't get on here any time soon, you can also link this thread in your ticket with them and ask the tech to send the ticket to Shubhra. I'll watch for a response from her in this.
Donna,
Here is something a little crazy... It stopped with Admin sending a friends request and now has started with a random new member sending a friends request each time someone signs up. I've got to get this fixed. Someone has to know the path file of invite to change the setting to not allow auto friend. We don't even have the plugin auto friend. Oh Boy we look dumb. As soon as someone signs up their getting a friends request in a millisecond and that looks fishy as a new member.
That is a feature of the invite that the user clicks when they invite someone. They can uncheck it if they don't want to auto send a friend request. As for the code, I don't know where it is and it will void your support if you modify the core files just so you know. If you don't want the inviter to send an auto friend request to the invitee (which is actually a good feature to have as the new member won't have to try to find their friend), ask SNS for help by contacting Shubhra please.
If you mean that it is not the inviter sending the request, that is not happening here so there must be some oddity with one of your plugins perhaps as no one else is reporting that.
