LANGUAGES

I would like to know if all the developers when designing a plugin take into account that there are other languages besides English.

It is common that when making a translation, the text of the translated language does not fit in a button or space and that the text leaves that space because the translated text has more characters than the original text in English.

And another question, because there are plugins that have their own language file and do not share the SE language file.

The texts of some plugins are not detected by the language manager of SE and you have to go crazy to translate them.

I have my sites in spanglis, half spanish and half english and sometimes mixed

Good topic. I don't have a spanglish pack to test with for the freebies I make. The standard way to make a plugin multi-lingual is to have a separate csv for the pack. It's how it works. If the developer doesn't put that pack path in the manifest, it won't be picked up. If the developer messes up something in the csv, it won't work.

I think if clients offered their translation to experts for testing with their plugins, they would do that. I know I would love to have a language pack to test my plugins with. Feel free to send me your pack if you would like. Just export it and it should allow me to install it.

Note that if anyone does send language packs to experts, they (experts) need to agree not to distribute that pack or sell it. I agree to not distributing that pack and not selling it should you send it to me.

I do not know what file I have to send, the Spanish language file installed in SE languages, the custom file?

The language files of the plugins, the custom files of the plugins.

You have my access data to Cpanel, can you download it?

If you send a ticket to me with subject Language permission, I can get it. You need to give me permission to get it. This can also help us in testing the SE script. If you allow me to use it for testing the script. I won't distribute it but if you give permission for our internal staff to use it for testing, that would be great.

Do I have to open a new ticket in SE and provide the data?

In previous tickets you already have the data but if you want to open a new one and I bring them.

Do I have to put some text on the ticket?

If you open a ticket, just give me permission to get the language files. I can find your details in other tickets if they are the same. You would want to do the same for other experts if you send to them.

My permission to obtain the language files you have, both you and I have permission to do whatever they want.

If any other expert wants the language files, you can provide them.

But the access data to Cpanel, SE and my sites are only for you.

Hello Angar, we have a Multiple Language Translator plugin and we test our plugins by translating them to other languages using this plugin. We generally do not translate the text in admin panel as sometimes the translations change the meaning of the plugin functionalities, but the user panel of all our plugins support translations.

If you want to checkout any of our plugin, then you can contact our support team from here: support@socialenginesolutions.com

Thanks for letting me borrow your language pack. I too have a free google translate plugin but wanted to use a pack to see if there's any difference. I'll see what I can do to improve some of my plugins that have "likes" as that phrase is longer.

The people that visit my two sites, are fundamentally of Spanish language in a 99'9%. My sites do not need a translator. My problems with the language are basically: -I do not speak English and configure plugins for me is very difficult, I do it with the google translator and I'm getting ready. -I translate some words and phrases and when I pass them to Spanish I find that they have more characters than in English and do not enter the spaces destined to that text. I look for words with a similar meaning so that they fit together but sometimes they confuse. -And my FUNDAMENTAL problem, I use the SE language editor to translate the texts from English into Spanish and there are many phrases that do not appear. This I think is because some plugins use their own language file and the editor does not detect them. There would be no way to have a single and common file for all the plugins and that everything can be translated from the language editor. I see from cPanel the language files, both those of SE and some of the plugins, I open them, I see the errors and I could edit them because cPanel gives me that option. I do not do it because when saving the edited file I think it is not saved with the same extension, I think the Cpanel editor changes the file type and I'm afraid it will not work. I could download it and edit it with another program but I do not know which one. Years ago I downloaded the language file and I was translating it with Excel, after many, many, many days translating, I changed it live and the page stopped working completely. Fortunately, I had a backup and reinstalled the entire web. The file extension, the file type should not be the same and I stop working completely. My pregustas: -I can edit it from cPanel ?, the extension or file type is changed. -What program can I use to edit to edit the language files? NOTE: When I registered in this community I thought I would never participate because of that language, ... I'm wrong.

I write in the Google translator and then I copy and paste here in the editor, the whole text is followed without spaces. The editor could not be suppressed in order to answer.

An example of what I said with the button problem:

I use either Notepad++ which is free or I use Sublime Text or Brackets. Any of those work for me when editing files. My newer products do have a language file as that's the only way I know of to add the phrases to the SE system. SE is supposed to pick up those phrases as long as the file is included. It is for mine. It is possible some of the plugins you have don't have the csv file for them but you can make one or you can also add the phrases in admin panel language manager.

As long as the plugin uses the phrase you add, it will work. An issue can be when a phrase is not the same as the code.

For example, I fixed for 4.10 an issue with a phrase as the code used Profile Type: but the phrase was only Profile Type. Due to that, it was not translatable.

For that button you show, it should extend to the size of the name on the button. You could fix it with some css or have the expert fix it. I think the expert should fix it as an improvement to their plugin. If that's something in default SE script, please post it as a bug.

This is a good thread to learn from. Thank you for posting it.

I insist again on the subject of language archives. I believe that all plug-in developers for SocialEngine should integrate their texts into the SocialEngine language file.

    (That's for something)

I think that the language files specific to a plugin or to a plugin manufacturer should disappear. So that from the Language Manager of SE the texts can be translated into the necessary language.

If I spend several days translating to translate a plugin and a few days later the developer updates it and introduces a language file for that plugin, I find the plugin again in English and I can not access its text with the language manager of SE and therefore I can not translate it.

I think that is something that should have as a basic rule for all developers and mandatory compliance.

They can't modify source code as it's not good to do but the language manager takes the plugin's language file and adds it to the English language translations so it can be used. You then can take that and copy it to your other languages - changing the name of the file and then translate in each one. If it is not working, it should be. Does it work for mine that have a language file? They are done in the proper format according to the documentation. If they don't work, then we have a bug with it. If they do work, then the plugins you have that don't work have a bug and need to be fixed by those experts.

As the complement's language file is not found by the Language Manager.
I do not know if the Language Manager does not identify the language file or that the language file is too hidden.
I notify the expert to see if he can translate the phrases and that my page is no longer in Spanglis

Did you send me your Spanglish language to test with? I will test my plugins to see if we have a bug if you are saying even mine don't work (the ones that I have the translation file in).

Your Happy Holidays plugin can be translated perfectly.
Everyone does not do things as well as you do.
The problem is in the SEAO plugins, they do not appear in the Language Manager. You even install some plugins update and what you already had translated from English into Spanish, reappears in English and you can not make it appear in Spanish again.
I follow your advice and communicate it to the expert and this is the answer:

Ok this sounds bad then. Are these phrases parts of their plugin or are these things you added to the plugin? If it's part of the plugin, it should translate properly. If not, it is a bug. I am more than happy to look over this plugin if you will pm me but it will be tomorrow before I respond to get details.
