Good morning everyone,

I'm starting the creation of a new (small) group of people who would be interested in splitting the development cost of a module for SocialEngine that would integrate Rocket Chat to SE.

The reason I'm creating this group is that Social Engine, while a great social media platform, does not provide powerful enough Chat system for it's user. Most of us have tried many different chat modules, including the basic including chat box, CometChat, Arrow Chat, etc... But all of them failed to truly provide a solid, fast and responsive chat for Social Engine. 

Why Rocket.chat?

- Rocket.chat is open source, free, in the very same spirit that Social Engine is being built

- It is the largest and most active open source team chat community (16k stars on GitHub and more than 600 contributors)

- Rocket Chat is stable, fast, self hosted or cloud based

- It is the leading "team chat" service as a Slack alternative

- It offers the unique possibility of being integrated with a wide range of other software, opening numerous opportunities for Social Engine

I estimate that if we reach a group of 10-15 people, the cost of developing the module will be less than $200 per person. Of course, this is linear so the more people who joins us, the least expensive it will become.

Will there be any Slack integrations with SocialEngine? Large parts of our communities are on slack already. Would love to integrate into the broader SocialEngine system.

We have considered releasing it as a plugin, but node.js setup turned up to be rather complicated for the majority of clients. So we currently offer that as a part of the custom development

Let me bring you good news.
I have integrated a video chat into my social engine page and updated it on the Members / home page. Since we think anonymously in Europe, this video chat can be reached without registration or registration. The chat is opensource and can be put into operation with your own domain and server. If you are interested, just write to me and I'll give you the link to see how it's done.

Since I also use the video chat for a school project for teachers and students, the video chat is designed as a multiuser so that everyone can access it and does not have to be part of my community.

I threw the video chat into my forum twice as a test.

With the code, the chat can be integrated anywhere on socialengine mit html Block. The installation goes on every server and is very important to you since the Lord of it.

Everything is cut, no google, no storage and no recording. Absolutely anonymous. no login and no registration. that is data protection at the highest level..

I have now published 3 variants on the forum page

1. Chat window with room names

2. Pop-up variant to integrate in members-home in the right side or wherever you want. Elegant if you decorate it with an icon.

3. Home in full screen.

I added the icon fa fa-video to the popup in members home in the size of 500x500 popup window.

I bought an rms installer for Rocket Chat for communities but I couldn't install and try it out under Plesk. but I can give in you like to try ..
And rocket chat uses jitsi meet as a basis Rocket chat is just a package but not actually the video system itself.

I would not experiment with my system. Better to use a test server. But for me, an integrated video chat is out of the question. We have in Germany and Europe. Thanks to Facebook and NSA and Google the DsGvO .
All you have to do is copy the username into the chat field, a scribt will do that automatically with your email address and username if you want. In the member profile there should be a button "now videochat" open with the room name of the user finished. It doesn't have to be connected to the database, so you still have the opportunity to delete your data and choose a fake name.

there are news about it? can we see somewhere since I can be intersted hehe

We have used it for a few custom projects, but it never made into a standalone plugin. Node.js wasn't that easy to configure on different servers. However in projects where it was used - it worked just fine as a replacement for the standard chat module.

It's light, fast and also stores all messages in standard SocialEngine messaging tables. So there is a history. If the plugin is disabled or node.js has failed there is a fallback to standard SocialEngine messaging (not chat).

I totally agree with you!

Rocket Chat is not free. And we tested and integrated it before going back ...

We have tested all Chat and VisioChat for 10 years, the only one that works really well is Jitsy which is really free and open source.

Another one that works well is Channelize.io.

It is a good product.
