All settings pages are sorted in to tabs. This is true for profiles as well. Each tab represents a different area of settings. You need to save your changes under each tab for all settings to be saved successfully. Each tab in settings is a new page which is why such is the case.
When you have to confirm an action, it will show up as a pop up box. For example. Sending a message.
To do so, you need to be friends with the person you are sending a message to for this to work.
Visit the profile of the person who you wish to message. If you are able to view it, and don't get a privacy settings or log in error, click on send message.
The same pop up box appears for other types of confirmations such as adding friends, deleting posts and leaving pages without saving your changes first.
This is a default social engine PHP behavior system which is system wide.
Confirmation boxes will always have only two links to click on, which is how you can distinguish them from other pop up boxes. The options are always okay, or cancel. So if you need to take action, you have the controls there to make it happen.
For developers, the pop up boxes are called models.
