We are pleased to announce the release of SocialEngine PHP 6.4.0! This release adds a few new features and improvements, and addresses bugs posted by members of our community and staff. 

Improvements:

• NEW – Added support for WebP photo uploads! This is great news for sites focusing on photos and needing the ability to upload WebP formats.


• NEW – Added a setting in the QuickLinks widget to allow admins to disable the icons from showing.

• Improved classified question display in product view.

• Added a setting for “Do Not Sell Info” so admin can enable or disable it.


• Added in-site and emailed notifications for reported items. These settings allow Super Admin and/or Admin members to receive notifications when someone reports an item on the site.


• Added character limit to activity feed post. This allows admin to determine how long a status post can be. For long posts, a “More/Less” shows for the user in order to keep the feed from becoming too long. Users will see a count of characters as they type.

We are releasing a security patch. This patch addresses a CSRF vulnerability reported to us which allows someone with advanced knowledge the ability to take over an account by changing the email if the website allows HTML and if advanced code were injected to the website due to allowing HTML or iframes. We recommend that all SocialEngine PHP websites apply the patch as a precaution.

You don’t need to do a full upgrade. Follow these steps to just apply the patched file.

• Download the current files from your account at socialengine.com/login .


• Untar (similar to unzipping) the upgrade files or unzip the SocialEngine zip file. Either will work as they both have this fix.


• Open the application/modules/User/Form/Settings/ folder.


• Find the file “General.php” and using an FTP program or cpanel, upload that file to the same folder on your server, application/modules/User/Form/Settings . You may want to backup the current file on your server first, in case you need to revert it.

We have released a small maintenance release, SocialEngine PHP 6.1.1. This release fixes a few bugs found after the 6.1 release.

Bugs Fixed

• Categories in plugins were not able to be edited.


• Changing member to another level if profile address is at "no" caused errors.


• The settings to send notifications about new sign ups is causing smtp issues for admins using other emails. We've added a setting to allow admin to enter an email to receive the new member notifications.

We are releasing SocialEngine PHP 6.4.3 to address a serious vulnerability reported to us. As this is a security release, we strongly recommend that everyone upgrade immediately. This vulnerability impacts all versions of SocialEngine PHP.

Clients with v6 access can download version 6.4.3 from our client dashboard.  Clients who do not have access will need to purchase v6 access. All SocialEngine managed sites will be upgraded due to this vulnerability. Any managed sites on v5 will be set to the default Elpis theme. If you are a managed client and don’t want the default theme, please log into the client dashboard and open a ticket to request the v5 Serenity theme (which is upgraded now to v6).

A changelog is not available due to the nature of this vulnerability.

Please ensure that your server meets v6 requirements and recommendations before upgrading. As always we highly encourage all users to do a complete backup of both files and database before performing an upgrade. Please have the backup performed...

Bugs Fixed

• Fixed - Inspira theme menus are not aligned on fresh install.


• Fixed - Re-enabling the Inspira theme causes multiple widgets to be placed in the header and footer.


• Fixed - When the Inspira theme is installed, and then the Sunshine theme is installed, the Footer Menu widget is not placed in the footer.


• Fixed - When enabling the Inspira, Sunshine, or Serenity Theme, the Landing Page Setting should be set to "No".


• Fixed - When any other theme (except Elpis) is enabled on the website and then the Sunshine theme is enabled, then the already installed theme is not disabled. But when I disable that theme manually, then the Elpis theme is enabled automatically.

• NEW – MariaDB compatibility! SocialEngine PHP is now compatible with MariaDB 10.6. This is exciting news for those wanting to use MariaDB.


• Improved – YouTube video sharing now does not require the YouTube API key. If no key is entered, videos will still share if you have the video plugin. If you choose to use a YouTube API key, that will also still work.
